Help disrupt fraudsters by reporting scam emails that you receive. People receiving scam emails are urged to report them.

The reports received by Action Fraud will be forwarded to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau run by the City of London Police for collation and analysis. This will enable crucial intelligence to be gathered and preventative action to be taken. The activity will seek to disrupt the fraudsters and close down the links between them and the victim.

Last year (January 2015 – December 2015) we received on average 8,000 reports per month, with 96,699 people reporting that they had received a phishing scam.

Now just over 11 months old, more than 350 million devices have already taken the plunge & upgraded.

Windows 10 will cease to be a free update on 29 July 2016, exactly a year after its initial release to the general public. After the free upgrade period, Windows 10 Home will cost £99.99 and the Pro version will set you back £189.99.

Beware of lightining strikes

How to Protect a PC in a Thunderstorm

The recent sunny weather also brings the threat of thunderstorms.

The Earth has 100 lightning strikes per second - about 3.6 trillion per year. Lightning damage to home electronics happens when a strike brings an excess of energy to utility poles. This energy then surges through our power and telephone lines right to our outlets. It's an unfortunate fact that someone, somewhere is going to have their computer fried by lightning. Read on to find out how you can prevent such damage.

1. Unplug all cords connecting your computer to the wall before the thunderstorm begins. Both power cords and router / modem cords need to be removed. •Unplugging before the thunderstorm is ideal, but it may be the case that you are not near your computer when the storm is threatening. Fear not, there are other preventative measures.

Use a surge protector. This is not to be confused with a power strip. A surge protector will look like a bulky power strip. When your home receives a power spike, the surge protector takes this spike and pushes it away from the outlets and your computer. •For ultimate protection, if you happen to be home, unplug the surge protector in the case of a threatening storm.

Make sure you're buying a good surge protector. Look for the following features: •The surge protector should cover lightning strikes. Some do not.

•Look for a surge protector that offers insurance to cover the loss of properly attached equipment.

Preventing data loss during outages

Determine if your electronic set up requires an uninterruptible power supply device, also know as a UPS device. Whereas surge protectors protect surges of power, these UPS devices protect against outages.

Outages and dips in power, even if minor, can cause hard or soft damage (like data loss) to certain equipment - for example, external hard drives or advanced telecommunication equipment.

•A UPS will be particularly beneficial if you have a home office or continually run operations on your electronics.

During thundery seasons, do long term data backups on a more opportunistic basis.

Unplug important equipment if going away for a day or two or on holiday in thundery seasons.

Apple users across the country are still receiving phishing messages today that have been designed by scammers to get them to hand over their Apple ID passwords and loads of other personal bits of information.

Although some people seem to have received slightly different messages, most claim to be from Apple and forward users a link to visit to reset their passwords. You might wonder how anyone could fall for such a silly prank in 2016, but admittedly the text messages look kinda legit, as does the website you're forwarded onto. So it's definitely worth telling your less savvy friends and relatives what to look out for. Read the full article here

The roll-out of broadband to the countryside is one of the most contentious issues facing this Government.

With rural communities telling us they believe broadband is essential to life in the 21st Century, it is a slap in the face for rural families & business to be given the spurious misapprehension that “not everyone wants to be connected”.

Last November recognising that, the Prime Minister promised a broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO), equivalent to Royal Mail’s obligation to deliver once a day to every address in the country. Yet now only a few months later, his promise is unravelling and connectivity in the countryside seems as remote as ever.

Rural broadband should be a simple fact of life.

If your missing out on broadband due to your location we can supply a high speed 8 - 20 MB+ broadband connection delivered by Satellite to any rural area no matter how remote or isolated.

Its make your mind up time

Windows 10 has come in for a lot of (justified) criticism but it also represents the future of Windows and is free – but not for much longer…The free upgrade offer will end on July 29

After July 29 Windows 10 Home will set you back £99.99 Windows 10 Pro will cost £189.00

Microsoft has pushed Windows 10 hard, some would say the 29th July deadline is the hardest push ever. However it's the future and it's free.

With Microsoft abandoning the traditional versions, Windows 10 will practically be the last version of Windows. It will of course, be receiving updates and the Windows 10 of 2020 might look nothing like the Windows 10 of 2016.

After 2020 and 2023, which signals the end of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 respectively, Windows 10 will be the one Windows version left standing. So we might as well start getting used to it now.
